Day 1
CHIANG MAI - LAMPANG (118 kms)
Leave Chiang Mai via a scenic shady road lined by huge trees to the ancient city of Lamphun. Visit the beautiful Wat Phra That Hariphunchai and the nearby museum. Continue toward Lampang with stops at Thai Elephant Conservation Centre and at Thung Kwian Market. Before discovering Lampang, it is worthwile to go first to Ko Kha to visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. Drive back to Lampang, the original centre of classical Lanna culture with many lovely temples and other architectural artifacts.

Day 2
LAMPANG - SUKHOTHAI (223 kms)
Drive through hilly woodlands to Wang Chin. Have a rest on the romantic bank of the Yom river. Continue to Si Satchanalai District. The Sathorn Gold Textile Museum provides an interesting opportunity to appreciate the delicate artwork. The site of Si Satchanalai has been converted into an historic park and lies on the west bank of the Yom river. Proceed via Sawankhalok to Sukhothai, the historical birthplace of the Thai Kingdom. Numerous Khmer-inspired ruins are worthwhile for a walk through this park.

Day 3
SUKHOTHAI - KAMPAENG PHET - MAE SOT (231kms)
Depart on a pleasant drive to Kamphaeng Phet, also called the city of diamond walls, situated by the Ping river. Similar to Si Satchanalai, Kamphaeng Phet was an outpost of the former Kingdom of Sukhothai and comprises four outstanding temples. Wat Phra Si Ariyabot perhaps the most remarkable one. Continue on the west bank of the Ping river towards Tak. Head westwards over mountainous highland to Mae Sot, splendidly situated in the valley of the Moei river which marks the Thai border to Myanmar.

Day 4
MAE SOT
Day at leisure. We suggest, however, that you spend the time discovering Mae Sot and its environment. Visit the daily morning market in the city of Mae Sot - Rim Moei Market followed by a side trip to the border market. Here you may purchase gems, semi-precious stones, and other products from Myanmar. A short drive takes you to the Wat Phra That Doi Din Kiu. Climb up to the hill where a breathtaking landscape makes you feel the Spirit of Myanmar! South of Mae Sot, you ll find some lovely national parks for relaxation.

Day 5
MAE SOT - TAK (156 kms)
Leave Mae Sot along the Moei valley to Mae Ramat. Visit Wat Don Kaew, a unique Burmese-style temple which comprises some Buddha sculptures in marble. Proceed eastwards on a narrow concrete road which leads over a most fascinating scenery along Meo, Lisu and Lahu villages. The downward slope opens to the huge valley of the Ping river. Just before Ban Tak, stop to visit Wat Phra Boromthat. From here it s a fast drive to Tak, majestically situated at the eastbank of the Ping river. Visit the local market and the Somdei Phrachao Taksin Maharaj Shrine.

Day 6
TAK - CHIANG MAI (275 kms)
Leave Tak for Sam Ngao to visit Bhumiphol dam, the world's eighth largest concrete-arch dam. Follow the highway north to reach Thoen, a peaceful and colorful place with several restaurants for lunch. Continue the long and winding road uphill to Li. Once past the lignite mine, the route becomes easy. Via Hong, it's a fast drive back to Chiang Mai. We suggest, however, to return via Chom Thong which is famous for its exquisite Lanna style temple: Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong. Return via Hang Dong to Chiang Mai and deliver your car to the BUDGET before 6:30 pm.
