Itinerary : Your Tour Program
Day 1  YANGON Upon arrival at YANGON airport you will be welcomed by your Asian Trails guide and transferred to your hotel. Your journey begins with an afternoon tour through Yangon�s colonial-style city center. Visit SULE PAGODA, dating back over 2,000 years ago; the magnificent reclining Buddha at CHAUK HTAT GYI and after a photo stop at the KARAWEIK HALL, a 'hamsa-bird-shaped' floating barge on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake; stroll through the BOGYOKE (SCOTTS) MARKET with hundreds of food, clothes, handicrafts and gems stores. Complete your first day in Myanmar with an extended visit to one of the world�s most spectacular monuments, the SHWEDAGON PAGODA. Lunch and dinner at own account. Overnight stay at Dusit Inya Lake Resort (****, Superior room) or similar in Yangon.

Day 2  YANGON � PYAY (PROME) After early breakfast, drive (280 km � 6 hours) to PYAY (Prome), situated near the ancient capital of SRI KSETRA (Thayekhittaya), which flourished between 5th and 9th century and where extensive archaeological excavations have taken place. After lunch at local restaurant, start a boat trip through the walls of the limestone riverbanks, along the ancient pagodas to AKAUT TAUNG, a former customs gate for merchants sailing on the Ayerwaddy. En route, stop at Myoma Village, which used to be a palace site during the 8th century. Continue to Htone Village from where you will be transferred back to Pyay by road. Dinner at simple local restaurant and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3  PYAY (PROME) - BAGAN After breakfast, admire the ancient stupas of the BE BE GYI PAGODA and visit the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM at the Hmawzar Village, before you continue your 350 km (9 hours) overland trip to Bagan. Lunch at simple local restaurant en route. Upon arrival, transfer directly to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 4  BAGAN After breakfast, stroll through the colorful local market and continue the day with visits to the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; Ku Byanuk Gyi, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes; Khay Min Ga Temple, noted for its panoramic view of the area�s numerous monuments and Ananda Temple, with four standing Buddha images. After lunch at local restaurant, visit one of Myanmar�s most treasured handicrafts, a lacquerware craftsmen�s workshop in nearby Myinkaba village. You will continue to Manuha Temple, built in the Mon style in 1059 and follow on to Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument said to have been the palace of King Manuha. Proceed to Bupaya Pagoda or Mingala Zedi Stupa to watch the sunset over the famous Ayeyarwaddy River. Dinner at a riverside restaurant and overnight stay at Bagan Hotel, Tharabar Gate Hotel, Bagan Golf Resort (***) or similar in Bagan.

Day 5  BAGAN After breakfast, visit the site of Tayokepyay Temple in Min Nan Thu Village; Phaya Thone Zu and Nandamanya Temples noted for exquisite murals of 13th century and Kyat Kan Cave monastery, a famous meditation retreat in Bagan. After lunch at local restaurant, explore the Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple, a temple noteworthy for its mural paintings under the protection of UNESCO and visit the Archaeological Musaum to view the beautiful Buddha images of bronze, stone and lacquer. Dinner at a riverside restaurant and overnight stay at Bagan Hotel, Tharabar Gate Hotel, Bagan Golf Resort (***) or similar in Bagan.

Day 6  BAGAN - SALE - MOUNT POPA After early breakfast, you will board a boat downriver (approx. 3 hours) to explore SALE, a town which developed during the late BAGAN era. Worth a visit is the YOKE SONE MONASTERY with its exceptional woodcarvings on the outside of the building. After lunch at local restaurant, continue to visit MOUNT POPA, an extinct volcano with spectacular views. Its shrine is dedicated to animist spirits known as "nats" and you will have time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak. Transfer to the Popa Mountain Resort and rest of the day at leisure for relaxing by the pool or strolls through the surrounding forest. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 7  MOUNT POPA � MANDALAY After breakfast, the journey continues 255 km by road (6 hours) to MANDALAY through varied agricultural landscapes and villages. Lunch at local restaurant en route. Upon arrival in Mandalay, transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 8  AMARAPURA - MANDALAY After breakfast, excursion to Amarapura, 15 km from Mandalay. Visit MAHAGANDAYON, a famous Buddhist monastery, where more than a thousand monks live and study; continue to 200-year-old U BEIN teak bridge, built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was Royal capital. Visit BAGAYA MONASTERY, with a superb collection of Buddha statues. After lunch at local restaurant, experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay including one of the most revered religious monuments in Myanmar, the MAHAMUNI PAGODA; the SHWE INBIN MONASTERY; the GOLDEN PALACE MONASTERY, a superb example of a traditional wooden building and KUTHODAW PAGODA the world�s largest book, made of marble. Visit a traditional hand-woven silk workshop as well as a Kalaga tapestries craftsmen�s shop before proceeding to MANDALAY HILL for sunset. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 9  MANDALAY - MONYWA After breakfast, proceed to MONYWA (150 km - 4 hours). Visit en route the THANBODDHAY PAGODA; 845 small stupas are rising up to the richly decorated central stupa, which is reminding a bit of Borobudur in Java. Take a walk through the nearby banyan tree grove BODDHI-TATAUNG with the thousand Buddha images sitting at the foot of each tree and enjoy the panoramic view from AUNG SETKAYA PAGODA, standing 130 meter high on the Po Khaung hills. After lunch at simple local restaurant, cross the CHINDWIN RIVER by ferry boat and proceed by pick-up or jeep (40 km - 1 hour) to HPO WIN DAUNG, a system of impressive sandstone caves containing Buddha statues, wood carvings and fine mural paintings mainly in Inwa-style, some dating back to 15th century. Dozens of large and small caves with about 450,000 images are hidden in the area of the Hpo Win Hills. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 10  MONYWA � SAGAING - MANDALAY After breakfast, visit to the local market and continue 20 km by car to SHWE GU NI PAGODA, built in the 14th century with its main zedi rising 33 meter high. Visit the lacquerware village KYAUKKA, before returning to Mandalay. After lunch at a simple local restaurant en route, visit SAGAING HILLS, a retreat for Buddhist devotees. Transfer back to hotel for dinner and overnight stay at Mandalay Hill Resort Hotel (****, Superior room) or similar in Mandalay.

Day 11  MINGUN After breakfast, morning at leisure and time for own explorations, shopping or relaxing by the pool. After lunch at local restaurant, excursion by boat on the AYEYARWADDY RIVER to MINGUN about 11 km (1 hour) upriver from Mandalay. Visit will start with the MINGUN BELL, a magnificent sight of the world's largest un-cracked bell weighing 90 tons, and will continue with HSINBYUME PAYA as well as the unfinished MINGUN PAYA, built as one of the world's largest chedis by King Bodaw Paya. Dinner and overnight stay at Mandalay Hill Resort Hotel (****, Superior room) or similar in Mandalay.

Day 12  MANDALAY � KALAW After early breakfast, a 275 km drive (8 hours) will take you to KALAW. After lunch at simple local restaurant en route, the journey continues on a narrow, winding and bumpy road through the Shan Hills. In the late afternoon you will reach Kalaw, a fresh and delightful hill station, on the rim of the Shan Plateau, which is a market center for ethnic minorities from surrounding regions. Dinner at hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 13  KALAW � NYAUNG SHWE - INLE LAKE After breakfast, transfer to NYAUNG SHWE (66 km � 1 ? hours) and proceed to your hotel for check-in. Full day excursion by boat on Inle Lake to see the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery. You will visit the PHAUNGDAW OO PAGODA, one of the main principle shrines in Myanmar and dating back to the 18th century; the NGA PHE KYAUNG MONASTERY, famous for its jumping cats trained by monks; the weaving village of INPAWKHON and to one of the local markets in the Inle Lake region (on market days only). Lunch at a local restaurant on the lake itself. Dinner at hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 14  INLE LAKE � HEHO � YANGON After breakfast and depending on the water level, board a boat to the Western Shore of Inle Lake, where you will find the beginning of a stair path leading to the hidden and unknown INN THEIN PAGODA complex. After lunch, you will be transferred to Heho Airport (25km � 1 hour) for domestic flight to YANGON. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Dinner to own account.
