Visit Koh Phi Phi and nearby islands The Phi Phi Islands are one of the world’s most beautiful tropical islands located between Phuket and the western Andaman Sea coast of Thailand. The islands are administratively part of Krabi province and equal distance from both Krabi and Phuket, about 40 kilometers. Comprising six small and large isles, the main features are soaring limestone cliffs and rock with emerald crystal sea. The best time to visit Phi Phi Islands is from November to April, when the sea is calm.

Koh Phi Phi Don (Koh or Ko means "island" in Thai language) is the largest island of the group, and is the only island with permanent inhabitants and comprehnsive holiday facilities, Covering an area of 28 square kilometers, the highlight attractions are the twin bays with curving white sandy beaches of Ao Ton Sai and Ao Lo Da Lam. Made famous by the Hollywood production - The Beach, the second largest island of Koh Phi Phi Leh was once the backdrop for this 2000 movie. This island also houses the ancient Viking Cave filled with swollow nests. There are no hotel, resort or any infrastructure on this island, but it is just a short boat ride from Koh Phi Phi Don. After the release of The Beach, tourism and population on Phi Phi Don increased dramatically, drawing more and more investors to make the island more desirable as a holiday destination.

Ao Maya and Ao Lo Sama - These scenic coves are the hot spots for snorkelling while the sea around the islands which are deep and full of stunning corals are popular diving spots.

Koh Yung - An island to the North of Koh Phi Phi Don, feature a rocky beach on the East and small powdery beaches amid valleys. This island is teeming with diverse colorful coral reefs.

Koh Mai Phai - Ko Mai Phai or Bamboo Island is North of Koh Phi Phi Don and not far from Koh Yung boast spectacular beaches in the North and East of the island. The bank of coral reefs with staghorn corals, in particular, stretches from North to South of the island - another paradise for diving.

Getting There:
Ko Phi Phi can be reached by boat easily either from Krabi or Phuket. Ferry services make return trips twice daily departing from Phuket and Krabi, with prices for one-way trip starting at 250 Baht. A regular ferry service from Koh Lanta direct to Phi Phi also operates in the high season.

From Phuket
Travellers can board the boat at Rasada Pier. Many tour companies in Phuket arrange various types of one-day trips to Phi Phi Islands. The trip takes about 1.30 - 2.30 hours, depending on whether it is an express boat or standard boat. Tickets can be booked at any travel agency, hotel’s tour desk or at the piers.

From Krabi
Travellers can board the boat at Chao Fa Pier or Klong Jilad Pier. There are several day trips departing Krabi for Phi Phi and nearby islands. Tickets can be also booked at any travel agency, hotel’s tour desk or at the piers. Boat services from Ao Nang to Koh Phi Phi are also available during high season, from November to May.
