Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced on May 29, 2010, that the government would lift curfew in Bangkok and 23 other provinces that had been in place for 10 days since May 19. In the statement, he mentioned that the decision was made as the situaion in the country had been under control.
Following this announcement,
BTS Skytrain and
MRT Subway resumed providing services at their normal operation hours between 6:00 - 24:00. BTS Rajdamri Station, which was closed due to some damages caused by the protest during the past week, is now open to passengers.
Major department stores and tourist attractions in town operate as normal
except for CentralWorld, Zen, Big C Rajdamri and Center One. To help small businesses affected by the political event, many shopping events were held at several locations on May 28-30. Not only boosting economy, but these events also indicated that Bangkok had been recovering rapidly.
Most of the hotels that were temporary closed for safety reasons have resumed their services.
Centara Grand at Central World and
Indra Regent Hotel are expected to reopen on June 1, 2010.
State of Emergency remains effective in Bangkok and other 23 provinces in order for the government to keep the situation under control. However, the government insists that peace and normalcy have been restored in the country and various measures have been implemented to make it once again a safe and pleasant destination for foreign visitors.
